Alex Raven was born in Cumbria, Roman Britain in 48 AD. She was raised in the Carvetti culture and became a warrior like her father. She suffered her first death in 75 AD in a battle against the Romans; much like her first teacher Cierdwyn, who found her and trained her in the ways of immortals. Throughout the years, she has remained somewhat nomadic in her ways and is well known for her skills as an assassin and spy.

Damon was born in Exeter, England in 1026. In 1068 Damon fell in battle as a crusader battling a Norman invasion. Damon was found by Leofric, the Bishop of Exeter and fellow immortal. Leofric taught him the rules of The Game. Since then, Damon has seen The Game as his holy purpose. He does not fight for the sake of fighting, but because he feels God has given him this task. Damon is a very pious man, and after he takes a foe's Quickening, he goes to church to pray for the fallen immortal's soul.

The Kindjal is the Short Sword version of the legendary Russian Cossack sabre, the Shashkas. There were many different types of fighting styles using the Kindjal: ranging from using it with a Shashkas to using it singly or with a buckler for fast, close combat situations. The Kindjal was a standard weapon in the Russian military well into the mid-20th century.

Pious Man's Blade -- Damon Case

This single-handed broadsword is the single-handed cruciform sword of the High Middle Ages, in common use between 1000 and 1350 and possibly even down to the 16th century. It is a common weapon in period artwork. The sword was worn by a knight even when not in armor and he would be considered "undressed" for public if he were without it. Damon carried the same sword for centuries, showing the same devotion to it that he showed to his religious practices.
