The earliest knowledge of the Dao dates back to the Shang Dynasty, during China's Bronze Age. Although the first Dao was made from Bronze, they were quickly adopted to iron and steel. The Dao is well known for it's wide, curved blade and ease of use. It became the standard issue weapon of the Chinese Calvery and eventually the Infantry. There are many variations of the Dao throughout the years including the Dadoo, which was used by the militia as recently as the Second Sino-Japanese War.
