Born George Gordon Noel Byron in 1788, the man who would become known as Lord Byron lived in luxury and opalescence. He committed suicide and was found and trained by Methos, who was posing as a Doctor at the time. Byron's killing of Hans Kirschner was the basis for Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein. In the 20th Century, Byron is a rock star, living on the edge and taking young musicians down dangerous paths with him.

As Quentin Barnes he was captured and put to death for murder in 1960, and he remained buried in the prison cemetary until a construction project unearthed his grave. Michael suffers from amnesia and sees his time buried as a bad dream he cannot reconcile.

The origins of the sabre are somewhat unclear, and it may come from designs such as the falchion or the scimitar used in the Middle Ages by such Central Asian cavalry as the Turks, Tatars and Mongols. The sabre first appeared in Europe with the arrival of the Hungarians in the 10th century.
