Little is known of the past life of Cardinal Giovanni. It is believed he was born in Rome around the time of Christ. There is no record of his first death, but he lived a life of hedonism after becoming an Immortal. Something drastic occurred in his life around the year 1249, because he joined the Knights Templar and embraced Christianity. Over the centuries, he moved silently through the inner workings of Rome. At the time of the events of The Source, he had risen to the rank of Cardinal with his current identity. Although outwardly a pious man, his inner desire for the finer things and for power would often drive his actions.
